Die Zuordnungen von Pflanzen zu Arten und Gattungen ist aufgrund ständiger Forschungen einem steten Wandel unterworfen. Dies betrifft natürlich auch die Familie der Myrtengewächse (Myrtaceae). Die auf den Folgeseiten dargestellten Tabellen zeigen 378 Gattungen der Myrtaceae sowie die Anzahl der Arten innerhalb einer Gattung, die je nach verwendeter Quelle stark schwanken kann. Die nach aktuellem Stand nicht mehr gültigen Gattungsbezeichnungen sind mit einem * gekennzeichnet.
Die fünf Gattungen Eugenia, Syzygium, Eucalyptus, Myrcia und Myrtus umfassen gut die Hälfte der insgesamt 13653 Arten.
